Guidance Counselor

I. My Program

The components of my guidance program follow the National Standards for School Counseling.  The tree broad goals of an effective counseling program are to help all students with Academic success, Career awareness, and Personal/Social development.  These goals are met through Counseling, Consultation, and Collaboration.

II. Counseling

I provide classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling and individual counseling.  Lesson topics: Successful Student Skills, Character Education. Conflict Resolution/Problem Solving Strategies, Stress & Anger management, Personal Safety, Harassment, and Bullying, Self Awareness & Appreciation, Career Awareness.

I am best able to meet with small groups of students during lunch/recess time to discuss common issues.  Parents/Guardians are contacted before students meet in small groups.  Groups are formed as needs arise.  Examples of Small Group Issues: Anger Management, Friendship/Social Skills, Learning/Academic Concerns, Changing Families, Drugs/Alcohol in the Family, Grief & Loss.

Individual Counseling allows me to meet with a student in a confidential setting  to help them resolve or cope constructively with their problem or developmental concern.  Students are referred to me by teachers/staff, parents or by the student themselves.  If I would like to meet with a student on a regular basis, the parent/guardian will be contacted.

III. Consultation & Collaboration

I work with school teams, staff, teachers and parents to help all of our students to be successful in school.

IV. Programs

I am in charge of the Safety Patrol program, the Community Partnership, and a part of the Human Relations Committee.
