Course Description:
This is a unique program of interpretive reading and discussion. Students develop the habit of reading classics, critically and supporting their interpretations with ideas and facts form the literature. This program requires prior reading of the assigned selections and discussions at home involving parents) and child. As a result, listening skills are sharpened, reading comprehension is improved, vocabulary building is enhanced, persuasive speaking developed, and IT'S A LOT OF FUN, TOO!

Participants do not have to be fluent readers in order to participate in this program. Some of the reading involved can be done by the parent. The main objective of the program is to promote comprehension, discussion, and vocabulary building. Discussions are led by parent volunteers who have completed the Leader Training Course or the Online Tutorial sponsored by the Great Books Foundation.

Check out The Great Books Foundation's web site at http://www.greatbooks.org/news/events.html for more information about the program.

Please note: JGB is another opportunity for your child and other children to learn. We ask that your child conform to the AACPS code of student conduct which can be found in the student handbook. Failure to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner may result in missing the next class. In addition, returning students must have a parent present for future JGB sessions.

No refunds will be given for missed classes.

JGB is a PTA sponsored program staffed by parent volunteers. If you would like to run a group, in the fall, please sign below when you return this form. An on-line tutorial will provide the necessary instruction necessary for leading a group.
