The Walking Club

The walking club is now underway! We have stared walking during recess and picking up sticks for every lap we walk.  Once we walk 5 laps, we know we have walked one mile.  For Every five miles we walk earn one foot token. After we earn ten "foot tokens" we are officially a  part of the Jones Elementary School "Walking Club" and we will receive a "50-mile Walking Club" tee shirt.

Every student at Jones has the opportunity to be involved with the Walking Club.  It is up to the student how much he/she wants to be involved.  The Walking Club is set up at recess on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  We are all very excited about the benefits the Walking Club has to offer.  We know that walking helps develop fitness while building muscles, burning calories, reducing stress, and creating good lifelong habits!  This year we are all working together to meet our school-wide goal of 3,000 miles!

During the week of October 9-13, 2006, we will be doing a different spirit theme everyday in order to celebrate National Walk to School Month.

  • Monday we will wear yellow for safety

  • Tuesday we will wear our Jones tee shirt or our school colors (blue and white)

  • Wednesday we will wear green for environment

  • Thursday we will wear our favorite sports team shirt or colors

  • Friday we will celebrate by wearing a hat to school and having our parents come to school and walk with us during recess.  Further information will be given regarding this week.
